Q1. Are there any specific entry requirements for each program?
A: Yes the eligibility and entry requirements are set out for each Program www.cept.ac.in /programs. You may write to us admissions@cept.ac.in for any doubts and queries.
Q2. How easy is it to get housing in Ahmedabad and what are the costs?
A: CEPT offers students support in getting housing through the Student Service Office and has good links through local providers. There is a range of housing options close to the Campus which includes hostels, renting an individual room, sharing an apartment with other students. Students and couples can also seek the help of realtors to help find an apartment or a fully serviced apartment. Most students find accommodation quickly but may wish to avail the home stay welcome that can be arranged by SSO. Costs vary and depend on the size and scale of the apartment. An average student rent for a room in an apartment sharing is between Rs 5000 and Rs 15,000 depending on location and amenity.
Q3. What are basic living costs for a student?
A: Transport food and entertainment costs are very low across India.
A lunch or meal on campus will cost Rs 80.00 or about eighty pence, while a short rickshaw ride home can be Rs40 or about 40 pence. Eating out in a restaurant can be as little as Rs 120 – 500 per person.
Food and basic costs are normally about Rs 10,000 – 15,000 per month
International students will also need to budget for flights, materials and additional travel cost if they wish to travel within India or participate in Winter and Summer Schools which are an extra cost.Winter /Summer Schools can range from RS 30,000 to 40,000 and domestic/international travel costs depending on the course you choose.
Q4. How do I get a visa to come to India?
A: Firstly, you will need to determine what kind of visa you require prior to coming to CEPT. The following website is useful https://boi.gov.in.
You need to apply to the Indian embassy from your country of origin. This will require that you pay a fee and supply the appropriate documentation. We advise that you allow a minimum of three months for this though it visas can be process much faster if you have all your documentation in order. The university cannot be liable for any delay in you getting your visa and you cannot enter India without having the correct visa. On no account enter India on a tourist visa in the hope of sorting your visa out in India. This must be done before your travel. Make sure you have your visa before you make travel arrangements.
Q5. How do I register with Foreign Regional Residency Office if I am a foreigner?
A: “All foreigners (including foreigners of Indian origin) visiting India on long term (more than 180 days) Student Visa, Medical Visa, Research Visa and Employment Visa are required to get themselves registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) concerned having jurisdiction over the place where the foreigner intends to stay, within 14 days of arrival.” This is normally stamped on your passport on arrival "REGISTRATION REQUIRED WITHIN 14 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF ARRIVAL" in India.
The University will facilitate the FRRO process.
