A: Bachelor’s in civil engineering (honours) program at Faculty of Technology, CEPT University is a unique engineering program in India focused on creative problem-solving skills and technological innovation in the construction industry. This program works at the intersection of allied disciplines of the built environment such as architecture, planning, design, and management.  BCE program focuses on developing professional capacities through working in realistic situations and live projects using the 'studio' pedagogy. This equips students with the skills necessary for being competent interdisciplinary professional engineers and exposes them to the technical, managerial, and social dimensions of Civil Engineering.

A: BCE is the only civil engineering program in India that follows studio based teaching and learning pedagogy.

All students admitted to the undergraduate programs of CEPT University (Architecture, Planning, Design, and Technology) study together and undergo rigorous training during the 1st year (level 1) with the CEPT foundation program (CFP). To know more about CFP click here.

From 2nd year onwards, the program introduces students to major aspects of civil engineering, i.e., structural engineering, fluid mechanics, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, transport engineering and construction engineering and management. The second and third years are considered level 2 of the education that focus on developing the skills of analysing and designing, constructing and specifying, and developing rationales. The 4th and 5th year is a higher level 3 that focuses on developing the skills of complex problem solving with all the specifics of level 1 and level 2. Students engage with well-designed, realistic, and practical problems through studio courses which are designed and conducted collaboratively with the established professionals. The portfolio at the end of each studio encompasses the rationale of the final design through visuals and written communications. 

The studios are supported with fundamental courses in civil engineering  such as Applied Mathematics, Concrete Technology, Solid mechanics, Construction Technology, Fluid Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Analysis and Design of structures, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction project management, and Building Energy Efficiency. Students understand the established theories with practical application through laboratory-based testing of materials, soil, and environmental parameters. Students are also apprised of modern techniques of surveying and levelling with different instruments, including drones.  

The program further trains students for real-world experience by placing them in professional training in various civil engineering companies/projects and consultancy firms across India for a complete semester. Students also have an opportunity to join exchange programs and research projects under eminent faculty members.

After completing the program, each student has emerged as innovative problem solver and critical thinker with a rich professional portfolio of eight detailed projects maximizing their chances for further studies or placements.

About 80% of the course faculty is a visiting faculty member, who is an experienced professional and is passionate about knowledge transfer. Apart from that, the Faculty of Technology (FT) is keen to develop collaborations with renowned industries under the umbrella of MOU and EOI on a willingness to undertake activities related to research and development in the construction sector. The 3 major domains of collaborations are within the industry (DRP, placements, and/or Internships), international universities for exchange programs, and students’ chapters with professional associations.  Student’s Chapters are formed with various objectives, some subject-specific, but broadly these chapters shall bridge the gap between standard academic courses and the current industrial practices. Students learn to work in groups, organize events, the opportunity to interact with industry experts, and participate in events and competitions.

A: Yes, it does. To know more, please check the Scholarship details on the website. Besides admission scholarships, CEPT University provides students with opportunities like Teaching and other assistantships to supplement their funding.

A: CEPT has tie-ups with a few well-known banks to provide a loan. However, students can also avail of a loan from other banks.

A: All CEPT faculties house a placement coordinator. The coordinator, along with student representatives, conduct a systematic process of placement every year.

A: The current placement batch is 100% in the UG program, considering students who had applied for the placement. The placement has been in public as well as private sector firms. The placement companies included Shapoorji Pallonji & Company Limited, Hi-Tech, vConstruct Pvt Ltd, Riviera Infraprojects, Visilean etc.

A: For the BCE program, both GUJCET (for Gujarat Government seats) and JEE Mains Paper-1 (For University Seats) of the corresponding year are eligible tests.
