Master's in Interior Design

Master's in Interior Design is an interdisciplinary design-led and research-informed program examining the practical and theoretical discourses in the field of interior design. The program provides for professionals from the field of design and architecture to specialise in the field of interior design.

This course is established to realise the need for design, research, innovation, and experimentation in the field of interior design. It promotes theoretical discourses, advances design and technical skills, and builds professional networks in the field of interior design. The course, through its pedagogical approach, intends to build abilities in students to propose and conceptualise design solutions through the integration of professional practice, material research, aesthetics, and changing technologies in the field of interior design.

Students spend the majority of their time undertaking studio-based design learning with the integration of theoretical and technological frameworks through theory-based and making-based courses. At the end of the program, each student will be able to:

  • Explore design issues of/in interior design, and generate an interior language that responds to any one or more of the:  Aesthetic and Visual concerns; Societal and Cultural concerns; Economic and Production concerns; Ecological and Environmental concerns.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of historical and contemporary debates in the field of interior design
  • Design through research-led/ research-informed/ design position approaches for interior projects

 


Exchange Opportunity

The program offers a unique opportunity to go out for a semester-long international exchange with one of the partner institutes of their choice as well as a two-week-long international workshop at a pre-decided partner institute. With the offering of this exchange semester, the program integrates a commitment to discussing major design concerns at both Indian and global levels. There is an opportunity to spend one semester of the course at a partner Institution abroad where the students are exposed to other competencies and a new context. The criteria of selection are based on academic performance in the first semester along with a personal interview during the exchange selection stage. The number of seats is declared in consultation with partner Universities near the middle of the first semester.

Graduates from this program employ their design skills to work with national and international Interior design and architecture practices. The employers of our program range from small-scale offices to multinational companies deeply engaging with the practice of interior design. Our graduates also work with academic institutions, and research centres, and, as PhD students and independent consultants.
